About the event

Join HIP Lit and The Urbane Conspirators for an unforgettable night of books, conversation, poetry, art, music, and much mingling. There will be cocktails and light bites to enjoy as you soak in the beautiful surroundings of this speakeasy mansion turned events space—now transformed into a "Downtown" salon for one night, only!

Between 1970 and 2000, New York was the most precarious and exciting arts capital on earth. Even as the city staggered from crisis to crisis, it was home to pioneering hip-hop artists, punks and poets, subway taggers, and gallerists who saw them as the next Big Thing. Join us in historic Ditmas Park, Brooklyn for a panel with Downtown memoirists and biographers—Lucy Sante, Maggie Dubris, Will Hermes, and Peter Trachtenberg—poetry from Andrew Colarusso, poetry plus a DJ set from Rico Frederick, artwork from The Art Students League, and more.

Books will be available for sale from Taylor &…
