About the event
Are you hungry for writing community? This 6-week literary salon, led by novelist Jenny Fran Davis, is a generative workshop where we’ll write new material, read brilliant writing, and share feedback on each other’s work. Along the way, we’ll dive into discussions of how to write compelling prose, what type of writing captivates us and why, how on earth to figure out plot, and what’s going on with structure.
Whether you’re working on a novel, dipping a toe into creative nonfiction, or writing “a little bit of everything,” join a cohort of 15 writers in the Urbane Arts Club’s cozy parlor, where we’ll discuss our work over tea and cookies while sharpening our narrative chops. All backgrounds and skill levels are welcome.
This is a six-week writing course, not a series of drop-in classes. Please sign up in advance to participate in The Literary Salon, which will be held on the following dates:
Class 1: September 24
Class 2: October 1
Class 3: October 8
Class 4: October 15
Class 5: October 22
Class 6: October 29
All culminating with a celebratory reading on October 29th, directly following class!
Jenny Fran Davis is the author of Dykette, one of the New Yorker’s Best Books of 2023, as well as Everything Must Go, a novel for teenagers. She got her MFA at the University of Iowa, where she was an Iowa Arts Fellow, and lives in Brooklyn.
